Chi-Town vows to robustly enforce Covid-19 regulations

By Abel Karowangoro in Chitungwiza

Chitungwiza Municipality has announced that it will begin actively enforcing Covid-19 regulations and council by-laws.
This comes as thousands of people in the town are openly defying lockdown regulations announced by Government almost three weeks ago.
There is a hive of activity in St Mary’s, Huruyadzo and Chigovanyika where people are not observing social distancing rules while businesses are opening well beyond the stipulated time.
Acting Town Clerk Dr Tonderai Kasu told Nhau that the national leadership has been clear about the national lockdown and thus all Covid-19 regulations must be observed.
With bars and nightclubs closed, shebeens have been operating at full throttle, day and night, particularly in St Mary’s, Zengeza 5, Manyame Park, Unit A to O.
“All those that are breaching Covid-19 regulations and council by-laws should desist from doing immediately because very harsh punishment awaits them as they are breaking not just by-laws but national laws as well,” Dr Kasu said.
“We all have a moral and collective responsibility to do the right thing so that we don’t infect each other with the coronavirus.”
According to council, Chitungwiza has 590 confirmed cases, 294 recoveries and 34 deaths. Nhau/Indaba
