China has breathed more life into Zimbabwe’s Covid-19 vaccination programme by donating 200 000 more doses of the Sinopharm vaccine, Nhau has learnt.
Chinese Ambassador to Zimbabwe Guo Shaochun confirmed this after having a virtual meeting with President Mnangagwa on Wednesday afternoon.
“Just now I had an online meeting with H.E. President Emmerson Mnangagwa announcing that China has decided to donate another 200 000 doses of Covid-19 vaccine to Zimbabwe. Facing this global pandemic, what we need is solidarity and action. China is committed to standing with the Zimbabwean people,’ he said.
Zimbabwe’s inoculation programme began last week after the Asian giant donated the same amount of vaccines to kick-start the programme.
Zimbabwe is expecting 75 000 doses from India and 12 000 doses of Russia’s Sputnik V vaccine in the coming weeks according to a cabinet announcement that was made yesterday by the Information Minister Monica Mutsvangwa. Nhau/Indaba
