D-day for Covid-19 positive Warriors

Warriors players and officials that tested positive for Covid-19 recently will know their fate this Sunday.
Nine players and five officials for the Warriors’ CHAN squad have been in isolation after the positive tests, derailing the team’s preparation for the tournament set for Cameroon.
On Thursday, ZIFA indicated the affected members of the squad could get a lifeline after a re-test.
“The team is still in camp, self-isolating after recording 15 positive tests for Covid-19,” ZIFA said in a statement.
“Players and officials who tested positive on December 28, 2020 will be tested again on 10 January 2021.
The association, recently in a cold war with the Sports and Recreation Commission (SRC), also revealed that they had been given the green light by Government to travel for the CHAN finals in West Africa.
The delegation is provisionally expected to leave the country on January 13 ahead of the tournament’s opener against hosts Cameroon.
Indications on the ground are that those that will remain positive after the Sunday tests, will be removed from the squad.
The national teams’ General Manager Wellington Mpandare is on record saying they have some players on standby to replace the nine.
The developments also come at a time when Warriors coach Zdravko Logarusic is believed to have been one of the officials affected.
“Chances are one of the assistant coaches could actually be in charge in Cameroon if the coach does not recover,” said an inside source.
“And depending on how depleted the technical team will be, there could also be one or two additions.” Nhau/Indaba
