Fidelity Printers Probed In Rushwaya Gold Smuggling Case

The country’s sole gold refinery, Fidelity Printers and Refiners (FPR), is under probe following the arrest of Henrietta Rushwaya in an alleged gold smuggling attempt.

Rushwaya was nabbed and found in possession of 99,99 percent pure gold at RGM International Airport on Monday last week.

While making submissions against bail for Rushwaya and her accomplices in court, Detective Chief Inspector Michael Chibaya claimed that police are about to unearth a huge syndicate behind the gold smuggling case after they commenced investigations against FPR.

Also under probe is the RGM International Airport security and that of the Civil Aviation Authority of Zimbabwe (CAAZ), who are the custodians of the manipulated CCTV system that allowed Rushwaya easy passage.

Rushwaya and the security at the airport allegedly connived with Central Intelligence Organisation agents Stephen Tserayi and Rafios Mufandauya.

“Mufandauya is the security operations leader at the airport and works hand in hand with the CAAZ security. CCTV footage shows Rushwaya’s arrival at the departure section at the airport and she was received by Mufandauya which shows that there was communication.

“Our borders are porous as we can witness now. The accused persons had managed to evade security check points and Rushwaya’s passport had already been stamped. This is a sign of being porous and it’s a threat to the country,” Chibaya said.

Police also want to establish the link between Ali Mohammed’s company, Ali Japan 786 Limited, Rushwaya and FPR since it is the only custodian of the gold matching the purity of that found in Rushwaya’s possession.
