Government has embarked on an exercise to register all vulnerable households in the country through an e-platform, a Cabinet minister has said.

Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare minister, Dr. Paul Mavima said this while receiving 160 computers donated to his ministry by Information, Communication Technology, Postal and Courier Service minister Dr. Jenfan Muswere recently.

The Zimbabwe Integrated Social Protection Management Information System platform is being developed by the Public Service ministry and is still at its pilot stage.

It will be useful under the ministry’s technical departments namely; Social Development, Disability Affairs, Labour Administration and Employment Services and Promotion.

Dr. Mavima said the system will start with updating statistics of those in districts affected by Cyclone Idai.

“The Integrated Social Protection Management Information System will ultimately guide policy makers in making evidence-based decisions for the betterment of livelihoods of vulnerable communities across the country,” he said.

The platform will also possess information about the type of assistance Government would have provided to each household through its various social protection programmes.

These include the Food Deficit Mitigation Strategy in the rural areas, Cash for Cereals targeting urban populations, the Harmonised Social Cash Transfer, a program that assists vulnerable households with cash, the Basic Education Assistance Module, which pays school fees for vulnerable children and the Assisted Medical Treatment Order (AMTO) programme which pays medicals bills for vulnerable groups of the society and many more.
