IPRCZ honours musician Alick Macheso

Sungura virtuoso, Alick Macheso, who is riding the crest of a wave following the success of his single, Zuro ndiZuro, was last night honoured at the second edition of the Public Relations and Communications Excellence awards held at a Harare Hotel.
For his sterling work and contribution to the local music industry, Macheso got the Best Campaign Lifestyle and Entertainment Award.
Speaking on the sidelines of the awards ceremony, Macheso who had a cameo performance with the hired band, said he was blown away by the honour.
“The industry has evolved and new voices and new sounds are coming into play. In view of all these dynamics, I am really honoured to be staying relevant and getting such recognition from IPRCZ. It’s an inspiration for me to continue working hard,” Macheso said.
Various brands as well as public relations and communications practitioners were recognised for their efforts in the sector.
Among the brands recognised for their various public relations and Corporate Social Investment (CSI) initiatives, especially in view of the Covid-19 pandemic, was Delta Corporation, Lafarge, Blood Services Zimbabwe, StanBic Bank, First Capital Bank, Net-One, Cassava and Zimpapers Group.
Public Relations and advertising agencies like Esteem Communications, Askeland Media and Spidex Media also got awarded for the work and public relations campaigns they are doing with various brands while individual public relations practitioners like Delta Corporation Corporate Affairs Manager Patricia Murambinda, Tsungai Manyeza of Lafarge and Esteem Communications MD and founder Takemore Mazuruse also got recognition.
Guest of Honour at the awards ceremony, Minister of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services Monica Mutsvangwa thanked IPRCZ for the awards and challenged corporates and practitioners to play their part in building brand Zimbabwe.
“Allow me to express my gratitude to IPRCZ for this well-thought initiative. Public relations is an important aspect of national development and it is important that we direct our effort towards sprucing up and celebrating the players in this field,” she said.
“It is my hope that all corporates and public relations practitioners join the national public relations efforts so that we all build a Zimbabwe we can be proud of.”
The minister also gave examples of how countries like Rwanda have tapped from good public relations and encouraged all Zimbabweans to love themselves and speak good about their country.
The Public Relations and Communications Excellence awards which started last year courtesy of the Institute of Public Relations and Communications Zimbabwe (IPRCZ), aim to celebrate achievers in the public relations and communications sector. Nhau/Indaba
