Local Documentary To Be Screened At Swedish Fest


A documentary on the life, music and cultural explorations of Swedish based musician and cultural ambassador Makandire Chezhira Chikutu will be screened at the ongoing SciFest in Uppsala, Sweden.

The film, ‘Chezhira: Where Is Home?’ which premiered online in January was recorded and produced by Saymore Ngonidzashe Sayid’Ali Kativu under The Nexus Think Tank at Zarawi Trust.

One of the festival organisers Gisella Bengtsson said they will screen the documentary while the subject of the film, ManLuckerz will also perform with his band, the Zim-Traditional Unity tomorrow.

“Manluckerz based in Uppsala, Sweden will perform with traditional music and dance from Zimbabwe,” said Bengtsson.

“A film, Chezhira: Where is Home? will be shown where Professor Michael Jones from SLU shares his experiences regarding research from Zimbabwe among with lots of other activities.”

‘Chezhira: Where Is Home?’ is a tale of a child born by the roadside, and thought dead when the midwife finally arrived. This earned him the name Chezhira which loosely translate to of the road, from his mother.

Reinforcing, the African culture of a son born to the community not only his parents, the midwife named him Luckson, for he was a lucky son to be alive.

The two names go on to define the life he was to lead from there forth.

“It’s exciting to have one’s story shared through such a great platform, great still the idea of Zimbabwean culture shared internationally,” said ManLuckerz.

SciFest is a science festival held March 4 to March 10, covering disciplines ranging from natural science, technology, medicine, pharmacy to humanities and social sciences.

“Researchers, teachers and students come together with other exhibitors such as high schools and companies, to provide educational experience including interactive demonstrations, and scientific lectures,” said Bengtsson.

“SciFest invites pupils, teachers and the general public to experience science. Due to Covid-19, everything will be on-line this year.

“We also provide an inspiring program in the intersection of science and culture.”

The festival is organized by Uppsala University and Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences. Nhau/Indaba
