Mayweather Manager Jets In

American Edward Mendy, the manager of heir apparent to the Mayweather legacy -Justin – jets into the country this afternoon for talks with boxing authorities that are expected to culminate in the hosting of a grand tournament aimed at promoting Sports tourism.

Should it sail through, the event that is penciled for August, will have three sons of former world champions taking to the ring. They include Seb Eubank (son of former champion Chris), Kenzie Morrison (son of Rocky V star Tommy) and Justin (son of Floyd Mayweather Snr).

Mendy’s company, Lionheart Boxing Productions, signed Floyd Mayweather’s brother Justin whose record currently stands at 6-0-0.

Fresh from having promoted a mega boxing event in the United Arab Emirates in which Zimbabwean champion Brendon “Boika” Denese participated and triumphed, Mendy’s sojourn to Harare has the full blessing of the Ministry of Sport.

Some corporates have also been said to have shown a keen interest in the arrangements and according to a Zimbabwe National Boxing and Wrestling Control Board source, they will be unveiled at a ceremony to be held during the course of the week.

Mendy, who is also Lionheart Boxing Productons Chief Financial Officer, said he has plans to have the August event (dubbed Zim World Class Boxing Extravaganza) beamed in 175 countries throughout the world through the partnerships he has with numerous renowned television channels. In the USA alone, 200 million homes are expected to watch the boxing matches.

The visit by Mendy buttresses the efforts being put by government to project Zimbabwe as a safe tourist destination through the Sports tourism agenda.

Last Saturday, a video clip went viral in which one of the greatest latter-day pugilists, Briton Amir Khan, spoke of his desire to come to Zimbabwe. He was speaking on the sidelines of the “Dubai War on the Shore” tournament hosted by Lionheart.  Nhau/Indaba
