MDC Alliance Senior Members Defect To ZANU PF

Two seasoned MDC Alliance members, Midlands senator Lilian Timveos and former Kwekwe Central legislator Blessing Chebundo, have crossed the floor to join the ruling ZANU PF party.

Timvious, who was the opposition’s deputy treasurer representing Midlands province was recently recalled from the senate.

Chebundo rose to fame after beating the then Kwekwe Central legislator now current President Emmerson Mnangagwa in 2000.

He recently lost a bid to represent the Chamisa-led opposition in primary elections to replace late legislator Masango Matambanadzo in Kwekwe Central to Judith Tobaiwa.

A twitter handle Jamwanda2 believed to belong to the Deputy Chief Secretary – Presidential Communications, George Charamba, announced the development.

“Two former MDC Alliance key members, Senator Lilian Timveos and Cde Blessing Chebundo have crossed the floor to join the ruling ZANU PF Party. They have just met with the President and First Secretary, Cde ED Mnangagwa, at State House,” he tweeted.

“The President received the newest members in the company of Vice President Chiwenga and Chairman Muchinguri-Kashiri. Chairman of Midlands Province, Cde Mackenzie Ncube, and Minister of State for Midlands Province, Cde Larry Mavhima, accompanied the ex-MDC-A members.

“Cde Blessing Chebundo had since left MDC-A to join MDC-T now led by Senator Douglas Mwonzora. Both figures opined that they found it futile to continue with negative opposition for the sake of opposition instead of joining hands with the rest of the country to support Vision 2030.”

MDC Alliance has since commented of the duo’s defection saying: “We respect the right of Sen Timveos and Mr Chebundo to freely associate with a party of their choosing.

“We remain focused on championing the cause of the people, being a voice for the masses and winning Zimbabwe for change under the able leadership of President Chamisa.” Nhau/Indaba
