Mukarakate Youths Benefit From Sports Kit Donation

Hundreds of youths drawn from around the Mukarakate area of Mashonaland East province were made recipients of a donation of uniforms and  balls by a group of community leaders last Sunday.

Speaking on the sidelines of the sports tournament that punctuated the kit handover  ceremony, one of the donors, Cosmas Washayenyika, said their objective was to afford the youths a chance to socialise through sport, as well as promote abstainance from drugs and crime.

“Soccer and netball are the main pastime activities particuparly for rural communities who lack sports facilities as one would find in the cities. Against  that background, we saw it befitting therefore to provide equipment that serves the two disciplines,” Washayenyika said.

The seven – (Cosmas) Washayenyika, Joseph Muchenje, Chikomborero Dirwai, Clever Hoko, Munashe Bondera, Hidred Mapfumo and Western Mapuranga – gave the donation to youths drawn from several villages around Mukarakate and a soccer competition, held at Jekwa township, added icing on the cake.

Following in the footsteps of Defence Minister Oppah Muchinguri who recently hosted a sports tournament for Nyanga-Mutasa supported by the Zimbabwe Football Association and Affirmative Action Group, Sunday’s philanthropic gesture was punctuated by a soccer and netball tournament which the spokesperson said be an annual event.

Washayenyika said their next port of call will be Zvimba in Mashonaland West province where a similar donation will be made.   He said as patriotic citizens of Zimbabwe, the group will also be using the gatherings to mobilise votes for President Emmerson Mnangagwa whose party, Zanu-PF, is targeting five million votes in the 2023 harmonised elections.
