The 14-year-old girl who allegedly kidnapped a 16-month-old toddler left in the care of her minor sisters by her grandmother in Bindura has taken a strange turn.

A Bindura court heard that last Thursday the minor purportedly visited a house in the township where a woman (name withheld) had left her 16-month-old grandchild under the care of her two older sisters.

The alleged kidnapper is reported to have taken advantage of the absence of adults and convinced the minors to take a walk towards Aerodrome shops under the guise of buying them some biscuits.

Upon arrival at the shops, she ordered the victim’s sister to go and collect US$1 she had left in a shop there. The sister complied before leaving the baby behind. Upon her return, the kidnapper had vanished to an unknown location with the baby.

Drenched in sweat and tears, the victim’s sister ran back home where she narrated her ordeal to the victim’s grandmother. They teamed up and abruptly dashed to the shops in search of the duo but this did not bear fruit.

However, the kidnapper was spotted by a Bindura municipality employee who managed to detain her briefly before alerting the kidnapped toddler’s grandmother. The toddler’s mother later identified her child although the baby had bite marks all over the body.

The kidnapper’s mother narrated a harrowing story to Nhau/Indaba, revealing details about her daughter’s alarming sadistic ways which have often left the community in shock.

In an exclusive interview outside the courthouse, the mother revealed that her daughter started coercing young boys to have sexual intercourse with her at the age of 10. She alleged that her daughter once took two boys and a girl into the forest where she allegedly forced herself on the young boys whilst inserting her fingers into the girl’s privates.

“When my daughter was 10-years-old, she wandered into the forests with two boys and one girl where she forced them to have sexual intercourse with her. The children came back home and reported the incident to their parents,” she said.

The matter was not reported to the police with families involved opting for to resolve the matter quietly, Nhau/Indaba heard.

“At one time in Glendale when I was vising my sister, my daughter also raped her cousin, who she left with bruises on his manhood which lasted for several days after penetration and biting,” she narrated in tears.

Again the matter was not reported to the authorities in an attempt to protect the children. But their quest to protect her led to another incident where she allegedly had sexual intercourse with a 13-year-old boy who resides at their homestead in Shamva.

At this juncture the matter was referred to the Police where it was recommended that she undergoes psychiatric evaluation.

“Most recently, my daughter forced herself on a boy whom we share the same house with in Shamva. I personally reported her to the Police and we were referred for psychiatric evaluation where they said she is not mentally ill but was just a mischievous child with an insatiable appetite for sex,” she said.

From that incident, the girl was prescribed with medication that would calm her anomalous behaviour. However, she kept on running away from home which led to the intervention of social workers. Subsequently, her runaway tendencies led her to another criminal act of kidnapping, leading to her arrest.

Before the kidnapping act, she is reported to have broken into her aunt’s bedroom where stole US$20 which she used to finance her kidnapping mission. The mother and the young kidnapper’s family have now disowned her.

Following her recent kidnapping act, Magistrate Ruramai Chitumbura ruled that the matter be handled by the Justice for Children’s Trust. Nhau/Indaba
