Four police officers, including a woman attached to the crime prevention unit, allegedly assaulted and robbed a motorist of US$70 a few metres from a roadblock.
They also allegedly assaulted fellow police officers and resisted arrest.
The officers, Manager William (30), Brian Mzilikazi (33), Natasha Mupingo (32) and Tafuma Ruvuke (32) appeared at the Bindura Magistrate’s Court along with a civilian accomplice, Bigboy Mjenda (32), who pretended to be a police inspector.
The five waylaid, assaulted and robbed at least one motorist along Mazowe-Centenary Road.
This latest case comes as the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has confirmed that it is dealing with numerous cases of rogue as well as bogus cops who are manning fake roadblocks and extorting people. Nhau/Indaba
