President Extends Lockdown By A Further Two Weeks


President Mnangagwa has extended the national Covid-19 lockdown for another two weeks as vaccines start trickling into the country.

Today Zimbabwe received 200 000 doses of the Sinopharm vaccine from the People’s Republic of China and President Mnangagwa said another 600 000 doses are expected in the next few weeks.

In his address to the nation, President Mnangagwa also stated that vaccines from Russia, India and the United Kingdom are also on their way and the Minister of Health and Child Care, Vice-President Constantino Chiwenga will announce the vaccination programme soon.

The President also said that the current lockdown measures which end at midnight have brought about a decline in the number of infections and deaths but the “rates are still high and these need to come down.”

He extended business operating hours from 8am -5pm.

The curfew has been shifted to start at 8pm until 5.30am.

Mnangagwa said gatherings remain at a maximum of 30 people and funerals are to be held according to the World Health Organisation (WHO) set guidelines while any other social gatherings remain banned.

Government workers will now operate at a 25 percent threshold from the current 10 percent.


In terms of operations of the judiciary, President Mnangagwa said that only urgent cases will be heard at the courts with an empty gallery.

All those entering the courts will first undergo testing.

President Mnangagwa also stated that schools will remain closed while sections of the informal sector will be allowed to operate only after satisfying WHO protocols.

Intercity and inter-provincial commuting remains banned. Nhau/Indaba
