A 42-year-old Harare man lost his life last Saturday following a speeding and overtaking error which occurred along Harare-Shamva-Madziva mine road.

Mashonaland Central Police Spokesperson Inspector Milton Mundembe confirmed the fatal accident.

He said that at around 6.30pm on the day, Takaedza Matsika (36) of Nyamwanga Farm Shamva was riding an unregistered motorcycle.

“Upon reaching the 93km peg Matsika indicated to turn right and Chibeke Chabarwa(42) of 6523 Waterfalls Harare was behind him driving a Toyota Corolla. While speeding he tried to overtake Matsika who in turn hit his car,” said Insp Mundembe.

Matsika was pronounced dead upon admission at Shamva Hospital after sustaining head injuries and a broken right leg.

“The motorbike sustained frontal damages whilst the Toyota Corolla had a damaged front corner lamp as a result of the accident,” added Mundembe.

Insp Mundembe urged members of the public to exercise caution on the roads and obey all rules and regulations.

“Motorists should avoid speeding since speed thrills but kills,” he said. Nhau/Indaba
