A Mhondoro Ngezi man suspected to be part of a gang that has reportedly caused a reign of terror in Bindura and surrounding areas was yesterday denied bail by Mashonaland Central Provincial Magistrate Tinashe Ndokera.

Trust Mupedziswa (34) of Village 12 Bumbe was arraigned before Ndokera facing allegations of murdering a patron at a night club in Shamva.

According to the State led by Leneel Makurumure, in January this year Mupedziswa proceeded to Tsodas Night Club in the company of Morris Tshuma, Givemore Nkomen, Morgan Tshuma, and others still at large armed with axes, machetes, spears, catapults and unspecified knives.

Upon arrival at the club, the gang attacked the now deceased Farai Fundi (24) by striking him several times on the head with their weapons. One of them stabbed him once on the chest with a knife leading to his death.

After the attack the gang fled leaving the body of the deceased at the scene.

On 6 January, informant Simbarashe Muvhundura (20) of  404 Tipperary, Shamva who is a supervisor at the night club found the body by the club’s sliding gate with visible multiple injuries and made a police report.

Postmortem results confirmed that a laceration on the right lung and severe thorax trauma as a result of the stabbing were the cause of death.

Mupedziswa was positively identified at the crime scene by a witness and six other possible witnesses might testify according to the State.

Ndokera remanded him in custody to February 28, 2022.

The state opposed bail citing that Mupedziswa was a nomadic gold planner, who would likely interfere with witnesses or evidence because he was allegedly a member of a gang called ‘Maziga’ with a history of committing violent crimes.

The other reason was that the weapons which were used to commit the murder were yet to be recovered while his accomplices are still at large. Nhau/Indaba
