Temba Mliswa Freed On $20k Bail

Norton legislator Temba Mliswa has been granted Z$20 000 bail by Harare magistrate Vongai Muchuchuti-Guwuriro on charges of violating national lockdown protocols, after conducting a press conference at his Borrowdale residence yesterday.

Riot police in the company of a senior officer stormed his residence in the middle of the conference and took him to Harare Central police station for contravening section 5(3)(a) of the Public Health(Covid-19 Prevention, Containment and Treatment)(National Lockdown)(Consolidation and Amendment) Order of Statutory Instrument 200/2020 as read with Statutory Instrument 10 of 2021.

Appearing for the State, prosecutors Charles Muchemwa and Constance Ngombengombe did not oppose the legislator from being granted bail over the allegations.

Mliswa was further ordered to surrender his passport, reside at his residence, visit Borrowdale police station once a week and barred from holding any press conference until the matter is finalised.

His lawyer, Advocate Musindo Hungwe told the court that they were going to challenge his placement on remand when he returns to court for routine remand on the 4th of March 2021. Nhau/Indaba
