Trio Caged 15 Months For Burglary

A Harare trio was sentenced 15 months in prison by Bindura Magistrate, Ruramai Chitumbura on Monday after convicting them  for two counts of unlawful entry and theft.

However, three months of the sentence were suspended on condition that they would not commit the same offence within five years.

On the first count, the state represented by Mr Edward Katsvairo told the court that on November 28, 2021 the trio comprising of Simbarashe Zimhondi (23) of 5625 Kubatana, Overspill in Epworth, Blessing Kudzai Makawa (25) of 1459 Jacha, Overspill in Epworth and Simbarashe Prince Makanjera (21)of Overspill, Epworth plotted to steal from Thomas Chirangande (48) of 5071 Chiwaridzo 2, Bindura who is a pastor at the Apostolic Faith Mission(AFM).

They hired a Honda Fit belonging to Gideon Teguru of 266 Stop, Epworth and proceeded to Bindura. At around 10pm the trio proceeded to the AFM church and entered the church hall through the door before stealing black sound crest speakers.

On count two, Zimhondi and Makawa hired a Toyota Sienta belonging to Nevermind Shereni of Epworth on December 7, 2021 and proceeded to steal Public Address (PA) systems from Tirivashe Zambuko (28) of 3125 Magamba Way, Aerodrome, Bindura.

The two entered his premises where they opened the door using a knife and broke a burglar bar using pliers.

They entered an unlocked storeroom and stole the studio equipment including a Sharp 42 inch TV and went away unnoticed.

On February 5, 2022, detectives from CID Bindura were tipped off that the stolen property had been sold in Epworth, Harare.

A follow-up was made leading to Zimondi’s arrest who then implicated his accomplices. Zimondi led the police to recover all of the stolen property.

On February 8, 2022; police received information about Makawa and Makanjera’s whereabouts leading to their arrest at his home in Epworth.

The recovered stolen property is valued at ZWL$ 1 360 000. Nhau/Indaba
