Murder suspect Jaison Muvevi’s mercurial run from the law finally came to an end ironically in the hands of unarmed civilians Monday when the former detective attempted to cross into neighbouring Mozambique to escape his crimes.
Muvevi was being sought for shooting and killing a self-styled Johanne Masowe prophet at a shrine in Wedza before turning the gun on the Officer in Charge Wedza police station and a bartender at a business centre in the area on Friday.
The slain victims were identified by police as Crispen Mubvana Kanerusine, 62, of Zinzombe Village, Wednesday; Inspector Maxwell Hove, 43, of ZRP Wedza Camp and Munashe Mujanhi, 20, of Mujanhi Village, Wedza.
The former cop, described as dangerous by police last week, also evaded a joint operation by police and soldiers in Rusape on Saturday with signs his arrest was going to be a difficult task.
But all that came to an end in the hands of some members of the public in Mozambique who confronted and wrestled the fugitive until he was subdued.
Viral images show a cornered Muvevi wrestled to the ground by a crowd during the brave citizen arrest.
Police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed Muvevi’s arrest.
“The Zimbabwe Republic Police confirms that the murder suspect, Jaison Muvevi has been arrested while trying to cross into Mozambique this morning.
Nyathi added, “The Zimbabwe Republic Police acknowledges and appreciates the support given by members of the public in the pursuit of the suspect.” ZimLive
