Journalists Barred From CCC’s Amos Chibaya Court Hearing

Journalists from private media publications were barred from covering
Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) organising secretary Amos Chibaya’s court hearing Monday.

Chibaya who is also Member of Parliament for Mkoba was arrested Saturday alongside 25 other party members while attending an alleged illegal political meeting in Budiriro.

They are being charged for allegedly holding an unlawful gathering with intent to incite public violence.

Advocate Wilfred Mandinde and Chris Mhike are representing them.

Only journalists from The Herald and Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation (ZBC) were allowed into the court room.

Initially the ZBC reporter had been turned away by the no nonsense riot police officers manning the court room entrance only to be allowed after making a few calls.

Those from Zim Live, The NewsHawks, Newsday, NewZimbabwe, Nhau/Indaba Online News, HSTV, 263Chat and other online publications were denied entrance.

Relatives and symphathisers of the arrested activists also failed to enter the courtroom despite spirited efforts that ended in vain after being dispersed from the court by the police. Nhau/Indaba
