Zambezi Gas & Coal To Double Production

Zambezi Gas and Coal Mine has purchased more mining equipment worth more than US$10 million in order to double their coal production, Indaba has learnt.

Company operations director Engineer Menard Makota said the machinery was bought from BLC in South Africa at a cost of US$10,4 million.

“We recently acquired 12 pieces of equipment which includes six dump trucks each with a capacity of 100 tonnes, three excavators, two dozers, water trucks and graders.

“With this equipment production is going to increase to between 250 000 and 300 000 tonnes from the current 150 000 tonnes we have been producing per month,” he said.

Eng Makota said the equipment will increase production as well as create employment for 800 more workers.

Zambezi Gas and Coal mine is a wholly owned Zimbabwean private limited company operating in the coal mining and coalbed methane exploration industry since its incorporation on August 1, 2002.

It sells coal products locally to South Mining, Afrochine and Dinson Colliery as well as other firms in different sectors like sugar processing, steel-making.

They also deal with mines such as Zimplats and Unki and also exports products to Zambia, DRC, South Africa and Mozambique.

Zambezi Gas has a concession of 180 million tonnes of coal deposits and plans to construct a 750MW thermal power station.

The company has grown to become one of the top coal producers in the country since it began its operations following the awarding of a Special Grant in 2017. Indaba
