ZEGU, Huawei Form ICT Partnership

Bindura’s Zimbabwe Ezekiel Guti University (ZEGU) has partnered with Huawei Technologies to assemble and sell their electronic products and devices for consumers in Zimbabwe.

ZEGU’s Faculty of Health Sciences and Technology Dean, Mr. Justice Makota confirmed the development Monday and said the technology giant had so far trained one of the university’s staff out of the two to be stationed there.

“The other one will be trained in April and thereafter we will begin the journey,” he said.

Huawei Technologies is a Chinese multinational technology corporation headquartered in ShenzhenGuangdong, China.

It designs, develops and sells telecommunications equipmentconsumer electronics and various smart devices.It was ranked second-largest R&D investor in the world by EU Joint Research Centre (JRC) in 2021 and ranked fifth in the world in US patents according to the study by Fairview Research’s IFI Claims Patent Services.

Meanwhile, the university is in the process of coming up with a new highly nutritious stock feed.

Mr. Makota, said works on the manufacturing and trials of the feed are on-going.

The feed is made from a special weed found in Murewa where they have since partnered one livestock farmer for supply.

“The feed is cheaper and will be a great game changer in livestock production,” he said.

The idea has since been endorsed by the Ministry of Higher and Tertiary Education, Innovation and Science Development.

Dr. Dennis Murekachiro, Director Higher Education Programmes in the ministry gave the greenlight for trials to be conducted soon.

He also recommended the college to contract out growers of the weed to increase supply.

“To make sure that you have enough of the weed l would also recommend you to find out growers who will supply you,” he said.

The feed will be manufactured by the university in line with the 5.0 education mantra that promotes research and innovation as endorsed by President Emmerson Mnangagwa.

Apart from these projects, ZEGU is also producing sanitizers for its hundreds of students and the local community. Nhau/Indaba
