Mozambican Caged For Smuggling Bikes

A 26-year-old Mozambican man appeared at the Bindura magistrates’ court Thursday facing charges of breaching the Customs and Excise Act after smuggling seven motorcycles into Zimbabwe through an undesignated point along Mukumbura border area.

Appearing before Bindura magistrate Tinashe Ndokera, Snezio Fillip pleaded guilty to the offence. The State opposed bail saying the accused was a flight risk since his wife resides in Mozambique.

He was remanded to February 23 for his trial continuation.

Thembinkosi Mananga, for the State, said the accused, who does not have a passport, sometime between March and November last year smuggled motorbikes through the porous border from Mozambique for resale in Zimbabwe.

He said he would use undesignated entry points along the Mukumbura border area until his arrest on 17 January this year.
The seven bikes have been recovered. Nhau/Indaba
