NACZ announces NAMA for Legends only

National Arts Council Zimbabwe (NACZ) director Nicolas Moyo has announced that the 20th edition of the National Arts Merit Awards to be held on February 27, 2021 will be honouring 40 creative legends, who contributed to the industry from December 2019 to November 2020.


Speaking at a press conference held in Harare Thursday, Moyo said they came up with the idea on honouring legendary creatives owing to the coronavirus pandemic, which restricted the arts sector during the lockdown era.


“The idea of honouring legendary creatives came as a result of lockdown regulations, which created unworthy environment for many genres of art to be carried out,” Moyo said.


He said that the yearly NAMA competitive awards will be shelved until February 2022.


Themed Our Legacy Our Pride, the event will be a double celebration as Zimbabwe reaches 40 years and NACZ turns 35.


He said event managers were up to speed with arrangements that are more likely to be a virtual affair.


“The event managers are moving fast with arrangements, the event is more likely to be virtual for the general public, however, a small sizeable audience will be invited to create an event,” Moyo said.


Also speaking at the presser JCMC Executive Director Napoleon “Napster” Nyanhi said there are a series of events that will take place before the Legendary Awards to build hype and source for more corporates who want to partner with NAMA.


“We will be having a number of events before the NAMA event and this will include the golf day on the 4th of December,” he said.
