Nyanga Road Accident Claims 7… Vehicle Fatally Strikes 6 Down In Bindura

Seven people perished along the Mutare-Nyanga road this morning when a pick-up belonging to Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Services (ZPCS) had a head on collision with a tanker along Nyanga-Mutare road.

Police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the accident but told Nhau that more details would be released later.

“Yes, a pick-up truck and a tanker had a head-on collision at the 67km peg along Mutare-Nyanga road. Seven people died on the spot and police will release more details later,” he said.

According to Information secretary, Nick Mangwana, the deceased are prisoners and prison officers who were going to attend court proceedings in Nyanga.“…the deceased are said to be prisoners and officers who were going to attend court in Nyanga. Two other people also lost their lives….”

Sources on the ground said two others were seriously injured and are battling for their lives at Bonda Mission Hospital where they have been admitted.

Meanwhile, Mangwana also stated that another six pedestrians died when they were mowed down by a vehicle along the Bindura-MtDarwin highway near the Wimbo shrine.

“Mt Darwin, two cars racing each other mowed down 7 people to death in a Road Traffic Accident at Goora Business Centre on the Bindura- Mt Darwin Highway. All six were pedestrians who had just alighted from a Kombi, on their way for prayers. A well-known gold buyer is involved,” he said.

Police confirmed the tragic accident, but said more details will be provided later. Nhau/Indaba
