Only Two Nurses At Bindura Isolation Center

Chipadze Farm Health Centre, now known as the Chipadze Covid-19 isolation centre, is understaffed, a senior health official has told Nhau.

Speaking on condition of anonymity for fear of retribution, the insider said there are only two nurses manning the centre and are overwhelmed with work.

The senior staffer pleaded with the Ministry of Health and Child Care to rapidly post more nurses to the centre. The centre is the only designated facility for Covid-19 in the whole district of Bindura. It has a capacity of 10 beds but currently has three critical Covid-19 patients.

Three more patients at the centre have mild to moderate symptoms.

Mashonaland Central has three health centres currently housing Covid-19 patients and these are Chipadze Clinic, Shamva and Mvurwi hospitals.

Our source said the 10 beds at Chipadze isolation centre are not enough in the event of a serious disaster: “We are currently facing a shortage of beds at the centre, we can only accommodate 10 to 12 patients at any given time, if the number exceeds then we have to return others to their homes.

“At the moment we can only take patients that have an oxygen suppression of 90 percent to 100.” Nhau/Indaba
